Preferences and Obsolescence:
Once you have preferences, it means that you will inevitably be eliminated, left behind, and crushed by the wheels of human progress.
Once you have preferences, it means that you will inevitably be eliminated, left behind, and crushed by the wheels of human progress.
No matter what your preferences are, as long as the objects of your preferences are relatively static, they will become shackles.
And the preferences of normal human beings are mostly static: colors, music styles, clothing styles, art styles, certain celebrities, certain books, certain theories.
Human nature is more inclined to accept concrete, tangible, static things, which determines that their preferences will also be static.
And these basic characteristics become the shackles they put on themselves.
They restrict you, hinder you from stepping into new domains, while these new domains are undoubtedly the future of humanity. The only constant in this world is change, and if you stick to the old ways, you will only be eliminated.
The world is ever-changing; due to being bound by preferences, one cannot keep up with the times, cannot iterate and upgrade.
So what should be done?
- 1. Embrace novelty and embrace change (preference for change).
Your preferences should be abstract, dynamic, without specific things, only change. Change should be your preference, as only change can stimulate and excite you.
- 2. Preference for truth.
Human development has only one direction, which is moving towards truth. All changes, all developments, all pulses point in this direction.
If your preference is truth, then you resonate with the grand direction of human progress. This is the ultimate preference.
The pursuit of truth is an exploration, a quest for novelty, criticism, subversion, and the construction of new knowledge. In a sense, it is also a form of change, iteration, and embracing novelty.
